
The first snow day in Turku during the Spring’s periode on April 2024
On 20th of April 2024, it was a snowy day in Turku and also a free-time day for us. The road was covered by snow, and everyone gathered to come inside and outside the hotel to warm up their bodies, and then go back outside to take a memorable picture in the snow—as we all did too. In furtherance activities of 20th of April 2024, half of UI’s students were facing a midterm examination during their breakfast. After that, some went to Turku Castle and Turku City Center, while others stayed in hotels.
Turku Castle is a more than 700-year-old historical monument in Turku, Finland. It is built with granite stone walls, which hold within them a museum about the history of Finland. There, we saw the queen journey of Princess Caethrine as the Queen of Finland, as well as some historical items from Finland, categorized by kitchen tools, construction, and royal equipment. Some pictures will appear below.

Moving to Helsinki
Embarking on the next leg of our journey, we anticipate the scenic two-hour train ride to Helsinki. The journey promises picturesque landscapes and a glimpse into Finland’s countryside. In Helsinki, our agenda includes site visits to NGOs that focus on Planetary Health. Beyond the scheduled activities, we look forward to immersing ourselves in Helsinki’s culture, indulging in local cuisine, and discovering hidden gems.
Key Messages
In the midst of Turku’s unanticipated spring snowfall, an exploration of Finnish culture ensued. Turku Castle offered a glimpse into the nation’s history, while academic preparations took precedence for some. Transitioning to Helsinki, engagement with planetary health-focused NGOs awaits. Beyond the structured engagements, anticipation lingers for cultural immersion, culinary delights, and the discovery of Helsinki’s hidden treasures.
